JUNIOR athletes representing Highgate Harriers came out fighting on Saturday in their opening fixture in the North West London Young Athletes Cross Country League at Perivale.
The performance of the meet came from Georgia Fear who finished well over a minute ahead of her closest rivals to win the Under-17s 4,000m with a time of 12 minutes, 52 seconds.
Highgate’s Under-11s girls’ team won their overall age group with Ellie Gilmore seeing off competition from more than 40 other runners to secure victory in the 1,200m with a time of 5.46.
Highgate’s Under-11s boys’ team were runners-up in their competition out of 11 clubs with 39 points, finishing just one point behind winners Shaftesbury & Barnet.
Competing over 2,000m, Finlay Doyle was Highgate’s highest finisher as he clocked a time of 7.08 to take eighth place.
Speedster Jamie Harper saw off competition from 40 other athletes to win the 300m in the boys Under-13s age group with a time of 9.34.
Highgate wrapped up a good showing by earning a team win in the Under-17s competition, despite only having two runners in the 4,700m event.
A fourth place finish from James Millett, who recorded a time of 15.52, combined with Ben Hatch’s sixth place finish, which came in a time of 16.27, gained a total of 34 points to secure first place overall.
