The Basil Spence library building in Swiss Cottage is now open again

• I WAS pleased to read that the Basil Spence library building in Swiss Cottage has been restored and is now open again.

I haven’t had a chance to visit it yet, but I was disappointed to learn that, at least according to Christopher Mason, the “bons mots” glazed quotes were all by male writers; not one by a woman! (Library is an inspiration, June 22).

I hope the selection was just Mr Mason’s and that women writers are equally cited. I will have to check it out!

I am reminded that in the 1980s when the new British Library first opened in the Euston Road a mural taking up the whole wall in the reception area depicted only male writers.

The only woman allowed a place there was Molly Bloom. A muse for all those men I suppose.

I do hope we have moved on a bit…
