ARSENAL Ladies midfielder Kim Little made history on Sunday when she won the inaugural Professional Footballers’ Association Women’s Player-of-the-Year award.

The Scottish international has become an integral part of the Gunners side since joining the club from Hibernian six years ago.

The 22-year-old, who beat team-mates Jordan Nobbs and Gemma Davison to the prize, was also part of the British team that reached the quarter-finals of the London 2012 Olympics.

Speaking moments after receiving the honour at a glitzy do at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Little said: “For years I have watched this event on television so to come here and win the first award is fantastic. To win the award with so many great footballers in the room was a great occasion.”

Little can’t dwell on her success for too long, however, as Arsenal prepare for their opening game in the Women’s Super League on Tuesday. They play rivals Liverpool at Emirates Stadium in a 7pm kick-off.

Tickets cost £5 for adults, and £2.50 for Under-16s and Over 65s.
