OLYMPIC hopefuls and future stars of the sporting world from across Camden and Islington are gearing up for an action-packed sports schedule this weekend as Europe’s largest annual youth festival returns to Crystal Palace. 

Thousands of youngsters will don their borough’s colours to take part in the finals of Balfour Beatty London Youth Games, where they will tackle a vast variety of disciplines, ranging from football, hockey and basketball, to archery, cycling and even squash.

With boys and girls also taking part in the Mini Games and the School Games, the Camden Schools Sports Association (CSSA) has certainly helped make sure their teams are ready to rumble by hosting a series of competitions in the build-up to finals weekend. 

The CSSA Year 3 and 4 Football Championships proved a huge success with 24 schools taking part in the action at Parliament Hill Fields.

The afternoon of thrills, spills and goals ended with Torriano School in Kentish Town being crowned the girls champions, while New End School in Hampstead won the boys tournament. 

The CSSA hosted a second football tourney over two days at Coram’s Fields, with Torriano again winning one of the girls titles. 

Teams from Brookfield School in Highgate, Primrose Hill and Rosary School in Belsize Park were also cheering in triumph after winning their respective competitions. 

Team Camden also took part in their first ever Quadkids Athletics competition recently at the Parliament Hill Fields track. 

Richard Cobden School in Camden Town won the Year 3 Cup, while St Aloysius School in Somers Town captured the Year 4 Cup.
