Fulham now a ‘must-win’

ARSENE Wenger will be looking to put his midweek regrets behind him on Saturday when he takes his side to Craven Cottage for what he has dubbed a “must-win game”.

The Frenchman believes that after “dropping two points” in a bruising encounter against Everton on Tuesday the Gunners must now beat Fulham and keep the race for a top-four finish in their own hands.

Despite having played a game more than London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea, Wenger is adamant that it’s still advantage Arsenal in the race for a Champions League place.

“The other teams have 58 points, with a game in hand but they have to play each other”, he said.

“We just have to make sure that we do not depend on the results of other teams and therefore what is most important is to win our next game.

“My belief was always strong and I’m confident we will finish in the top four. The best way to do that is to put the same effort we showed against Everton into our next game.”

Wenger may have praised his side’s efforts following Tuesday’s goalless draw against the Toffees, but he won’t want every factor of Arsenal’s performance to be the same when they take on Fulham.

“We had the chances to win the game. We’re on a fantastic run and there is a fantastic spirit so I do not want to complain too much,” he added.

“They made it very physical and we responded very well on that front. But we have regrets because we couldn’t take our chances.”

Fulham may want to be wary about giving away too many set pieces.

“I have two regrets,” Wenger went on. “When in finishing positions we always wanted to use power. Secondly, on our set pieces I don’t think we did enough.

“We had so many corners and free-kicks. There has to be a goal in there from somebody and that’s the regret we have.”
