CLERKENWELL Old Boys are going from strength to strength in division two of the Camden Sunday League – and their latest outing at Hackney Marshes yielded their biggest win yet.
The free-scoring side have banged in five, six and even seven goals in a single game already this season. At the weekend they were even more ruthless in front of goal as they netted nine against a strong Chalk Scratchings team.
Hotshots Gino Philip and Cordell Foster matched each other strike for strike as they both scored hat-tricks, while Frankie Chandler, Dennis Attoh and Danny Byrne also all found the back of the net in a resounding 9-1 victory.
The win leaves Clerkenwell six points behind Islington rivals Highbury Town, with the two teams set to go head-to-head this Sunday in a mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash.
And if it was goals you were after, then the game to watch at the weekend was the preliminary round of the Camden Sunday League Challenge Cup, which we proudly sponsor.
Cobden Athletic were taking on Metropolitan Rockets – and what a goal fest! The Cons’ leading scorer Steven Bruce led the charge as he scored four in a 13-0 thumping.
Luke Morgan and Matt Loughney chipped in with two goals apiece.
And not to be out-done, Brook Ford, Daniel Loughney, Harry Pederson, Michael Johnson and Winston Fowler all added their names to a staggering goalscorers’ list.
