LEGENDARY Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is to be offered a return to the club – three years after he stood down.
Mikel Arteta, the Gunners’ current boss, said he did not know which role Wenger – a three-time Premier League winner with the Gunners – could take but said yesterday (Thursday): “We would be delighted to have him much closer.”
Wenger’s achievement of guiding Arsenal to an unbeaten season is currently being celebrated in a new film, Invincible.
When he departed, however, the team was struggling to compete for major honours and Arteta is facing questions over how well his rebuilding project is faring.
“I think he would have a great time just seeing the environment that he can create around him when he’s around this place because of the respect, admiration and the love that everybody at the club has for what he’s done,” Arteta said.
He added: “Things take time and I think he has to dictate those timings. What I can say is, from my side and I can say, I think, on behalf of everybody, is that we would be delighted to have him much closer.”
