Crossing Prince of Wales Road

Pedestrian take their life in their hands when crossing Prince of Wales Road

• TO get from Harmood Street to Talacre Gardens, which used to be accessed by a zebra crossing and traffic island, any pedestrian now has to take his/her/their life in their hands.

As can be seen from this picture, these three pedestrians are having to look right as they try to see round a row of legally parked cars.

They have already had to look right to cross a bike lane and they will have to look right again – if they don’t want to get run over – when they find themselves standing in the middle of the road. Here, they will need to look left and wait for a break in the traffic.

These three pedestrians are able-bodied and unencumbered. For the rest of us – mothers with young children, the old and the elderly, the blind and the lame – the park is as good as out of reach. For anyone who is not quick on their feet, this unregulated crossing is a minefield.
