Footballs spending in the capital: Which London club has racked up the most debt?
Thursday, 31st May 2018
With the promotion of Fulham from the Championship last season, London now has a total of six clubs competing in the Premier League this season. Great news for football fans in the capital who can look forward to plenty of local derbies in the near future, and away fans who will see their traveling costs cut significantly!
Whilst we’ll have to wait and see to find out how these teams fair in terms of Premier League points, a new tool created by Know Your Money has ranked the top flight teams in terms of debt levels.
With all the transfer spending which happened in the last window (bar Tottenham of course), as well new sponsorship deals, promotion bonuses and season ticket re-pricing, the world of football finance can be an expensive and confusing one.
So which London club has spent more than perhaps the accountant is happy with?
- Arsenal – £227m
- Tottenham – £185m
- West Ham – £89m
- Fulham – £62m
- Crystal Palace – £11m
- Chelsea £0
The total London football debt? £574m! Interestingly, only £70m more than the club debt of Manchester United.
