THEY’VE barely taken a month off, and already players from Regent’s Park FC are itching to get back on the pitch.

The action in the Islington Midweek League isn’t set to return until September, but the club is already searching for pre-season friendlies.

Manager Des Casey, who runs the team with Perry Joyce, joked that England’s penalty shoot-out defeat against Italy on Sunday has left his squad in desperate need of a distraction.

“The boys want to start playing again as soon as possible, and need something to take their mind off England’s disappointing campaign.”

After winning the second division title two years ago, Regent’s Park (pictured) were invited to skip the first division and jump straight into the top flight at Market Road. Des is delighted that his team has still managed to stick to their footballing ethos. “The boys played really well and acquitted themselves superbly in what is a very difficult division,” he said. “They wasn’t expecting to bypass the first division, and wasn’t prepared to play at such a high level, but they still performed to a remarkable standard. Their pass-and-move style is outstanding, and they never resort to playing the long ball. Some might say they’re the Barcelona of Market Road.”

Regent’s Park are searching for a sponsor ahead of the new season.
