HAMPSTEAD made it a hat-trick of wins in Division One of the London and South-East Regional Women’s League on Sunday when they won 3-1 away against Garston.

The visitors went close to making a dream start when Spanish star Elisa Martin curled a cheeky effort around the keeper from outside the area, only to be denied by the post.

Agonising gasps quickly turned to cheers, however, as minutes later Hampstead opened the scoring when Anjana Gadgil unselfishly squared the ball for Val Toro to slot home into an empty net.

John Baker’s side quickly doubled their advantage when Becky Barnes (pictured) plucked a Garston goal kick out of the sky, powered forward and smashed the ball home from the edge of the area.

The game was put to bed two minutes later when a piece of individual brilliance led to one of the all-time great Hampstead goals.

Seeing the Garston keeper off her line, Gadgil audaciously volleyed the ball home from 40 yards.

Although Garston denied Hampstead a clean sheet late on, manager Baker was more than pleased with his teams efforts.

“Our pre-match chat focused on the fact that between them Gadgil, Toro and Barnes had scored exactly 100 goals for Hampstead,” he said.

“With that kind of pedigree we were confident that one of them would hit the net, but it’s particularly pleasing that each of them was on the score sheet.

“We’re so lucky to be able to call on that class and quality.”
