PHOENIX manager Dave Harber could barely control his emotions after his side became the first team from the Camden Sunday League ever to reach the final of the London Intermediate Sunday Cup.

A single strike from midfielder Chad Griffiths was enough to earn Phoenix a narrow 1-0 victory over rivals Lapton in the semi-finals at Hackney Marshes.

A tremendous team effort was epitomised by Lewis Laws’ man-of-the-match display in the heart of the Phoenix defence.

Delighted Dave said: “I’m so proud of the boys, every time I talk about reaching the final I well up. Every single player in the squad has been magnificent . They’ve shown such great character and have handled every single challenge that has been thrown at them.”

The final will be held at Dulwich Hamlet Football Club on April 1.
