HUNDREDS of football fans took to the streets of Finsbury Park last night setting off fireworks and damaging three police cars.

The rowdy crowds were celebrating Algeria’s dramatic last minute 2-1 win against Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Videos from the night show fireworks shooting up from the street and some being turned and shot down the streets.

The police were called at about 9pm to Blackstock Road to “reports of a group of football fans beginning to gather in the street.”

Fireworks started to be set off during the match. But when Algerian superstar Riyad Mahrez scored a last minute winner in the semi-final hundreds poured out into the streets to celebrate.

A police spokesman said: “Three police vehicles sustained damage. No reports of any injuries to officers or members of the public.”

A police helicopter circled above as the football fans enjoyed the evening.

Road closures were put in place but they have since been removed.
