STAND-IN goalkeeper Carmel Clinton was the hero of the hour as high-flying Camden Town made it five wins in six games on Sunday in Division One North of the Greater London Women’s League.
With the visitors holding on to a fragile 1-0 lead away at Newham, the referee pointed to the spot after shouts for a handball.
The acrobatic Clinton capped a player-of-the-match performance as she dived to her right to make a vital save.
The only goal of the game came early in the first half when striker Kate Howarth was brought down just outside the box.
Centre-back Jackie Newing made the most of the resulting free-kick as she smashed the ball into the top corner.
Camden had chances to double their lead with striker Alex Henderson and winger Sophie Langman both going close.
But in the end one goal was enough as Town took all three points.
