ORGANISERS of an Under-14s football competition are calling on support to help make sure the final whistle hasn’t been blown on their youth league.

For the past six months the Coram’s Fields Eight-A-Side Youth League in Bloomsbury has been entertaining more than 150 young people from various youth and sports organisations.

But the floodlights were switched off earlier this month when funding came to an end.

Sports Development Officer Naz Deen now hopes generous companies in and around the community will dig deep.

“We’re hoping to find continued funding to keep running the league free of charge and on a more permanent basis,” he said. “Ideally we’d like to create a legacy and have the competition running over a period of years. Players have made friends with young people from other teams, which clearly shows the league was a huge success and young people from diverse backgrounds and different postcodes can build positive relationships. This competition acted as a catalyst to improve social cohesion in Camden, and we’d love to continue that work.”
