DIVISION One champions Cobden Athletic got the defence of their crown back on track at the weekend when they smashed six past Dinamo Dorigo.
In their opening game, Cobden paid the price for only being able to field nine players as they lost 2-1 against Constitution.
But showing the kind of spirit that led them to the title last season, the boys bounced back in their second outing at Hackney Marshes with a resounding 6-0 win.
Striker Steven Bruce followed up the goal he scored last week with two more, while left-back Matt Loughney capped a man-of-the-match display with a clinical finish. Pat Jones and Winston Fowler also both found the back of the net, before Kaleb King added his entry for goal-of-the-season.
Elsewhere in Division One, new boys AFC Camden Borough are still looking for their first points of the season after narrowly losing 2-1 in their game against MDM.
Camden Borough’s bright start quickly turned gloomy as they were reduced to 10 men when Michael Johnson saw red after 10 minutes. Things went from bad to worse as they soon found themselves a goal down.
To their credit the side showed tremendous spirit to level the scores when Robert Taylor raced onto Jamie King’s pass and beat the keeper with a spectacular long-range effort.
Despite all of Borough’s pluck and determination, however, heartache struck with almost the last kick of the game when MDM scored a last-gasp winner.
In Division Two, London Badgers made it two wins out of two with a hard fought win over FC Bertoli, avenging defeat in last season’s Junior Cup semi-final in the process.
Thomas McCarthy, Chris Dales and Matthew Kemp all got their names on the score-sheet in a 3-1 victory.
