STRIKER Kaleb King fired Cobden Athletic into pole position in the Division One title race at the weekend when he inspired his side to a crucial 4-1 win over Phoenix in the Camden Sunday League.

The pacey forward opened the scoring midway through the first half with a fine individual goal, before bagging his second of the game minutes later with another neat finish.

Goalkeeper Matthew Summers played his part with some good saves as Cobden weathered a storm against a Phoenix side desperate to keep their own title aspirations alive and kicking.

Winston Fowler ending the game as a contest when he put Cobden 3-0 up in the second half.

Phoenix pulled a goal back through a Gio Falzone penalty, but King capped a man-of-the-match display when he set up Patrick Jones for the final goal of the game.

The win sets up a massive game on Sunday between Cobden and Athletico Annies, who beat Dinamo Dorigo 6-1 at the weekend.

As it stands Cobden are eight puts clear of Annies, who have two games in hand over the league leaders.

Champions Phoenix and Reddot now know the destiny of the title is out of their hands as they rely on results elsewhere going in their favour to reignite their championship challenge.
