PROMISING players from one of the top youth leagues in London are bracing themselves for a fixture list that any professional footballer would be proud to face.

Within the next couple of weeks teams representing the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League are hoping to agree testing away-days against youth teams from Tottenham Hotspur, Reading and Fulham.

Various age groups ranging from 9 to 14 have already proved that they can handle Premiership opposition after netting two wins against youth sides representing Norwich City at the Hub in Regent’s Park.

Ash Rahman, who runs the league with Will Cave, insists it is now a case of onwards and upwards.

“Against Norwich two of our age groups picked up good wins, while another narrowly lost 1-0 so to say the boys did well was an understatement.

“Having squared up against top opposition all the youngsters are desperate to keep testing their skills against the best, and we’re hoping to give them that chance by agreeing friendlies against youth teams from Spurs, Reading and Fulham,” he said.

And a rematch with Norwich certainly looks on the cards after heavy praise from some of the club’s officials.

“The level of the players involved was very high and we look forward to developing a great working relationship with the players, parents and coaches from the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League,” said Gregg Broughton, head of recruitment.

Norwich academy manager Ricky Martin added: “The experience will aid the development of all our players. I was really impressed with the facilities and hospitality we received from everyone associated with the league.”
