STRIKER Rio Glean (pictured) has edged a step closer to the big time after being invited to start training with a professional club.

The Carlton Primary schoolboy has joined Brentford FC’s School of Excellence, where he now trains three times a week and plays games every Sunday.

The talented 10-year-old was spotted playing for West End FC in the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League by a member of Showcase Talent, an organisation that helps promising players fulfil their potential.

After being snapped up by the League One side, Rio said: “I’m very excited, and very proud to have achieved my goal of training with a professional club.”

Rio’s old club West End FC are holding trials at the Malden Road football pitches in NW5 on January 21.
