Food banks require special facilities
Thursday, 30th September 2021
• THE reduction of £20 per week in the universal credit benefit will hit hard the most vulnerable in the borough. During the pandemic groups, mainly from the voluntary sector, worked hard to successfully run food banks.
These are the source of last resort for desperate people and differ from other measures such as food co-ops which are also needed. Food banks require special facilities for storage and complicated management.
If, as is widely anticipated, demand will now grow it is unclear what plans Camden Council have. In Gospel Oak a detailed and potentially funded offer to help is on the table and a reply is awaited from Camden.
