Permanent metal gates are to be installed on Primrose Hill

To whom it may concern:

• I FELT disappointed upon learning about the Royal Park’s decision to install permanent gates at Primrose Hill in Camden.

It effectively isolates this beautiful green space from those seeking to enjoy it. The significance of shared green space has become even more apparent in recent years, as many of us don’t have gardens, making community access to nature vital.

While I don’t doubt that instances of poor behaviour have occurred, it’s important to acknowledge that the failure to control anti-social actions predominantly stems from reductions in police numbers.

Not only has the Royal Parks experienced cuts to its police force, but Primrose Hill, the ward where the park is situated, has seen a drastic decrease in police officers, leaving only one officer responsible.

To effectively address the challenges facing our parks it is crucial to focus on safety. During the Covid-19 pandemic, our council group prioritised the improvement of street lighting in Alexandra Palace.

This initiative allowed people to continue utilising their cherished park while feeling secure in doing so.
