AN exciting sports initiative is being launched in South Camden after organisers were awarded a six-figure sum by Sport England.

Coaches from Coram’s Fields in Bloomsbury have teamed up with The Calthorpe Project in King’s Cross and Holborn Community Association to kick-start Activate South Camden after receiving a cheque for £144,520.

The three-year project will give six-to-19-year-olds the chance to enjoy free sessions with qualified coaches in various sports, including football, basketball, tag rugby, tennis, gymnastics and taekwondo. Naz Deen, head of youth and sports at Coram’s Fields, said: “Activate South Camden will be used as a catalyst to inspire more young people to play and enjoy sport in Camden.

“Not only will this encourage the community to get fitter it will also decrease anti-social behaviour by giving young people in the area something fun to take part in and positive activities to enjoy.”
