Flats residents in Pandian Way left high and dry
Council made emergency delivery late on Saturday after tenants' pleas fell on deaf ears

HUNDREDS of residents were left without water for 30 hours on a housing block in Camden and haven’t had running water for at least five days.
Nearly 200 flats in Pandian Way on the edge of Cantelowes Gardens realised mid-morning on Friday that their taps were running dry. Engineers were on site Wednesday and the outage was finally fixed.
On February 12, Thames Water directed resident calls to Notting Hill Genesis, a housing association that runs 26 social flats on the estate, and Blenheims Estates, which has overall responsibility for the building. But nothing was fixed and the situation continued into the weekend.
It was only when one social housing tenant tweeted Camden Council’s regeneration chief Cllr Danny Beales that 300 litres of water bottles were supplied by the Town Hall. Both Notting Hill Genesis and Blenheims later added to the supply on Sunday.
The saga turned into farce on Monday as water bowsers were brought into the block – but Blenheims only provided 80 buckets for 200 flats. This has since been remedied.
One person living in the block told the New Journal: “It was a shambles, and when it was delivered it still wasn’t enough. It takes two litres to flush your loo, half a litre to wash your hands, and that’s before you’ve had anything to drink, cooked or washed your clothes. People were getting six litres of water on Sunday, it goes instantly, especially for families living together.”
A spokesperson for NHG said: “There was some confusion over the weekend which led to a delay in getting water to our residents and we apologise for that. Since Monday we have had staff on site and in touch with residents to offer support and we are writing to all residents to apologise for the inconvenience they have faced.
“Blenheims are now delivering 2,000 litres of drinking water each day, tanks and buckets for washing or the flushing of toilets as well as sanitising stations.”
