CUSTOMERS want supermarket giant Sainsbury’s to fix up its store in Kentish Town after a leak left the aisles soaking wet.

Elizabeth Duff said the Sainbury’s Local shop in Kentish Town Road had been in disrepair for months despite complaints to the company.

She said cloths are being used to soak up water and the floor was wet and uneven.

“There are edges turning up and the staff try and do their best to warn people by putting up signs or cones to walk around the uneven flooring,” she said. “There’s often signs saying ‘wet floor’. The staff are very aware of it and they are not happy that they have to work in those conditions, I expect they get complaints from customers and they can’t do anything about it, it’s very frustrating.”

Ms Duff said she was concerned for those with a disability, or those who find it difficult to walk.

“A member of my family is a wheelchair user and it would be almost impossible to get a wheelchair through safely, and obviously anyone else, if you’re using a walking stick or are visually impaired it would be equally very difficult for them,” she said. “I would hope the management at Sainsbury’s would take notice of this. It’s a hazard.”

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “A leak from the fridges has caused some damage to the floor of our Kentish Town Local store. We’re working to repair the leak and floor as quickly as possible and we’re apologising to customers for any inconvenience this may cause.”
