Victory smiles: Under-15s girls’ cup winners KCB Warriors

GLORIOUS goals, captivating cup finals and a tense shoot-out left the crowds at Coram’s Fields transfixed on Friday as scores of young footballers from across Camden and Islington set their sights on one of the most sought after pieces of silverware of the summer. 

Spearheaded by Fitzrovia Youth in Action, and with the support of no fewer than 10 other community groups and youth organisations, the Camden Unity Cup didn’t disappoint as it returned for a 17th year to bring youngsters from different backgrounds together to share their love of football.

Skipper Marco Perkola sparked the celebrations as he scored the only goal in the Under-10s Unity Cup final to earn Pro Touch Soccer Academy a 1-0 victory over Camden Elite. 

Two goals from hotshot Binyam Mesfin and a strike from Aaron Keto helped the Camden District team beat Chettle Court Rangers 3-1 to capture the Under-12s Unity Cup, while Salman Ahmed hit the winner as Wapping Youth won 1-0 against Amberleigh in the Under-14s Unity Cup final.

Shahrima Hussain led KCB Warriors to the biggest win of the day in the final of the girls’ Under-15s Unity Cup. Her hat-trick, along with strikes from Rahma Abdulle and Shubna Khan, saw the Warriors run out 5-1 winners against All-Stars. 

A nail-biting finale in the Under-16s final saw smart shot-stopper Nadeem Abdin save two penalties as Somers Town Future beat Pro Touch Soccer Academy 4-3 from the spot to be crowned cup kings after the game finished goalless in normal time.
