Should fireworks be better regulated?
• MUCH has changed in the past over the enjoyment of Bonfire Night, especially with the displays of fireworks.
Any day or time appears to warrant squibs being set off.
I am informed that it’s legitimate to let fireworks off until 11pm on normal days and up to midnight on Bonfire Night. On New Year’s Eve, it’s 1am.
While I don’t object to new year’s celebrations, surely some thought should be given to the adverse effects on animals and the fact that many people will find it difficult to hear television or radio or even enjoy a quiet night in.
I called police after midnight on Bonfire Night as loud banging noise could still be
heard in my area.
I was given little sympathy and the police seemed more concerned with my details than dealing with the racket perpetrated by selfish people who regard the common areas as their personal property to carry out their own regards.
Fireworks used to be a children’s thing and most of the entertainment ended around 8pm, now it goes on until after midnight.
What about the effect on animals? Some fireworks resemble small bombs.
Surely this should be better regulated so that we can all enjoy an evening.
