FIREFIGHTERS have been tackling a blaze in Primrose Hill where the old rail station was alight and smoke was seen billowing into the air.
Passers-by said the fire on Regent’s Park Road started at around 9.20 and from the railway bridge. Onlookers could see the roof of the building on the other side of the bridge was ablaze and the roof charred black.
Evan Williams, who lives on Eton Place, said that a similar fire in the same location happened just a few weeks ago.
“You could smell it before you saw it. I smelt it in my hallway then saw later the whole building was on fire,” he said.
“The businesses there have been there for a while, the lamp shop for over a decade.”
The cause of the fire is not yet known. The two businesses situated on the corner of Regent’s Park Road and Bridge Approach are Tann-Rokka, a home furniture shop and Sahna Hot Yoga and Pilates studio.

People have been told to avoid the area if possible
In a post online Sahna Yoga said: “There was a fire in the building next door, which has unfortunately impacted the studio. While everyone is safe, the space has been affected and we need to pause while we access and restore.
“As a result, all classes today and tomorrow are cancelled. Sahna is a space rooted in care, calm, and community, and right now our priority is ensuring the studio and all those connected are safe.
“We’re working closely with the building and doing everything we can to bring the space back together. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more information to share.
“Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support.”
The London Fire Brigade said one of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders is being used at the scene to help fight the fire from above and that Adelaide Road is closed between Winchester Road and Haverstock Hill.
Michelle Banks who lives locally was walking her dog when she realised she could not cross the bridge as it had been cordoned off for the public’s safety.
The 67-year=old said: “The smoke was billowing up into the sky. It’s a relief to know that everyone is okay but awful for the businesses that are there.”

Fire crews look over the bridge
The Primrose Hill rail station, which had previously been known as Chalk Farm, closed in the 1980s.
Due to the fire’s proximity to the railway some lines between London Euston and Watford Junction have been subject to delays or cancellations. Around 70 firefighters are on the scene and have mobilised crews from Kentish Town, Holloway and West Hampstead fire stations.
A London Fire Brigade Spokesperson said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are tackling a fire on Regent’s Park Road in Chalk Farm. A single storey commercial building is alight. Most of a neighbouring property is also alight. Adelaide Road is closed between Winchester Road and Haverstock Hill. Please avoid the area while the incident is ongoing.
