Firefighters tackle blaze above parade in West End Lane

Rescue teams are trying to reach the rear of the buiding

FIRE crews and ambulances were at the scene of a fire in West Hampstead this afternoon (Friday).

Rescue teams are using a cherry picker to reach the top and rear of a building at the top end of West End Lane, close to Finchley Road. At man has been helped to safety from an upper floor flat, leaving through a window and down a ladder outside the Gung Ho restaurant.

The London Fire Brigade said six fire engines and 35 firefighters had been sent to the scene shortly before 3pm.

“The cause of the fire is not known at this stage,” a statement said.
