concrete dumped in KentishTown

A massive piece of concrete dumped in Kentish Town

• THERE is ample photographic evidence of the failure of Camden Council’s waste strategy across the borough.

Various  excuses are given by the council (councillors and officers alike) for the disgusting state of many of our streets. One is that it is caused by residents who do not make use of Veolia’s services to remove large items.

This picture (above) is of a massive piece of concrete, hardly likely to have been fly-tipped by a resident. It was left in a well-used dumping area in Weedington Road, Kentish Town.

The solution is simple. Install CCTV, catch the culprits, fine them the maximum £50,000 and publicise this in your newspaper.

No doubt the well-worn excuse of “Tory cuts” will be trundled out. I note that these cuts did not deter councillors and their entourage splashing out over £11k of council taxpayers’ money on an exclusive knees-up for the new mayor.

My solution would bring in an estimated £40k in profit and, hopefully, deter others, making even more savings. Perhaps the relevant cabinet member would  care to comment.
