Finance chief is stuck in the Dark Ages over climate crisis
Friday, 13th December 2019

Cllr Richard Olszewski
• I AM very worried about Cllr Richard Olszewski being in charge of the finances at the Town Hall, (Town Hall once again refuses to ditch fossil fuel investments, December 5).
He clearly doesn’t understand the climate emergency and trumpets his ignorance while trying to put others down.
We need leadership in the Town Hall that recognises the climate emergency and is prepared to take action. Current climate science clearly says that we need to keep all existing fossil fuels in the ground.
We cannot afford for any more to be extracted and enter the carbon cycle, as this will make it impossible to limit the effects of global heating. We simply cannot allow Camden’s pension pot to go on funding fossil fuel extraction.
Cllr Olszewski says that “we’re actually talking about people’s livelihoods in retirement, current pensioners, and future pensioners”. This is exactly right; but not in the way he understands it.
Unless drastic action is taken now about the climate emergency, the possibility that anyone will have a future that is protected from the breakdown of global systems is remote.
Cllr Olszewski seems to be stuck in the Dark Ages. Please can he move aside and let someone more in tune with the urgency of our situation take his place.
