TOP senior and junior athletes donned their Highgate Harrier vests and braved the downpours to take part in the final track and field meet of the season.
A well-blended mix of youth and experience joined forces at the Parliament Hill fields running track last Wednesday to enjoy one final outing before the cross-country season gets underway.
In the under-13s girls’ category the highly-rated Ivy Johnson again caught the eye as she won her long jump with a distance of 4.22 metres. She also glided to victory in the 75m with a time of 11.99 seconds.
Once again Highgate’s outstanding middle-distance senior was Ryan McKinlay, who took part in the 1500m ‘A’ race and the 3000m event in quick succession.
McKinlay, who was part of in the Middlesex team that won the Inter-Counties Championships recently, took first place in the 1500m with a time of 4:09.31. But he had to settle for second place in the 3000m with a time of 9:07.40 after being overtaken in the final lap.
Other top results saw Conleth Gallagher win the under-11s long jump with a leap of 3.79m, as well as hitting home first in the 600m in 2:07.40.
In the same age group, Ella Rush claimed victory in race one of the 75m in 11.3 secs, while Tyree Rankin won race three over the same distance in 12.21 secs.
In race four of the Under-15s 100m Khristen McDermoth was first in 12.22 secs. And, on unfamiliar ground, he raced to first place again in the 400m, in a time of 54.53.
