Feed birds and eat dragonflies

Thursday, 9th January

• YOUR correspondent suggests feeding birds in their natural habitat is unnecessary and that there’s “lots of food for them in Parks”, (Feeding bread to birds is not healthy, January 2).

Processed bread is bad, but human food, for example, cooked potatoes, broccoli, carrots, squash, plain pasta and rice, apples, nuts and raisins do help, though it won’t bring back our beloved songbirds.

They have been driven out by the development of gardens which was their habitat first.

They say travel broadens the mind. It would show dragonflies and their larvae are indeed on the menu and are “human food”!

Please leave fresh water for birds especially during icy weather.
