LEGENDARY US operators Fatburger are set to open their first UK restaurant in Camden Town.

Famous for its links to hip-hop culture and its XXXL burger which clocks in at 2,050 calories, the company will begin a 20-restaurant expansion plan in Jamestown Road. It will be next door to market rivals Byron Hamburgers, taking over a unit previously used by Yo Sushi.

Orignally founded in 1947, the chain has attained cult status in the United States as the favourite food of famous rappers including Ice Cube, who mentioned the Fatburger in this 1993 hit, It Was A Good Day, and Tupac Shakur in his song, Late Night.

The new shop will be twinned with its chicken wings operation Buffalo's Express.

Chief executive Andy Wiederhorn said: “We’re excited to bring our Fatburger and Buffalo’s Express international expansion to Europe, and we believe that London is a great place to start. The city is an exciting melting pot of various foods, people, and experiences, and we know that our all-American cuisine will fit in nicely with the diverse culture.”
