Farewell to a friend and comrade

Friday, 3rd April 2020

• I LEARNT with great sadness of the death of my dear friend and comrade Deborah Lavin, who I worked with for many, many years in Camden on a plethora of issues and cases that affected the community we lived in.

She and I and Richard Simpson, who was himself the Heritage Champion in the borough, worked as a team to seek to start up what will become one day the Somers Town Heritage Centre and Museum.

She cared desperately for our community, had served twice as a chair of two tenants’ and residents’ associations on two estates in Camden before she moved. And in those years had worked hard for them.

She was an excellent writer and poet and fought against the poverty of care, and for the provision of decent homes and facilities in our community.

Deborah was a remarkable fighter who would speak with care and fervour to ensure a world of achievement for all.

As someone who has sought to work with strength in our community I will deeply miss Deborah Lavin and her life and views and her care and love for all in our world who have little or nothing.

Bless you, Debs, you will be missed in our lives.

Rest In Peace.
