THE family of a woman who died after falling from the 17th floor of a tower block in Queen’s Crescent are calling on the council to improve safety measures on windows in high-rise buildings following her tragic death.
Nikki Summers, died aged 42 in the early hours of Saturday morning after she fell from Bacton Tower in Wellesley Road. Her death is not being treated as suspicious but unexpected.
Speaking at the scene of her sister’s death, Sharon Summers said: “She wore her heart on her sleeve and she would give you her last pound. She liked a drink and a laugh. She was really funny. Her kids mean everything to her, and her grand babies.”
Since Ms Summers’ death, residents who live nearby have laid flowers and lit candles opposite the tower block in her memory.
Her family are now asking how Ms Summers was able to gain entry to the block, despite not being a resident and a 24/7 concierge in the building, and said they had concerns about safety measures on communal stairwell windows, some of which can be opened fully and do not have protective barriers.
Ms Summers added: “This is negligence from the council. Windows like that should have an alarm so if you open them too wide the alarm goes off, or a child lock so they only open a little bit. “And even today, days after it happened the windows are still open in the block, you can see it from down below. They said this was to air the block but why are there no grills on these windows?”

Her niece, Louise Summers, added: “She struggled with her mental health. It’s heartbreaking, she has two kids.”
Ms Summers’ family said she had lived in Camden all her life and that only weeks ago she had moved into a new home in Somers Town and was looking forward to the fresh start with her two children.
Ms Summers’ sister added: “She was a TikTok legend and had quite a following. I had people messaging me telling me how sorry they were to hear what had happened. “She touched people’s lives, people she didn’t even know. She had a massive heart and had too much love for this world.”
A Camden Council spokesperson said:“This is a tragic situation and our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of Nikki Summers. We stand ready to assist the coroner and authorities in any way we can and to provide support to the family and those affected.
“Camden Council is committed to providing the highest level of safety in all our housing.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “The London Ambulance Service attended but sadly, a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Her next-of-kin have been informed. Officers are investigating the possibility that the woman had fallen from height prior to her death. Her death is being treated as unexpected, and enquiries remain ongoing.”
