A SQUAD of young footballers from Camden and Islington are starting on a road that could well lead to them tackling the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham next week when they kick-off their first ever campaign in the FA Youth Cup.

Players from top youth club AFC, which has formed ties with semi-professional side Waltham Forest, will take on Chelmsford City on Wednesday in a preliminary round of the famous club competition at the Matchroom Stadium in Walthamstow.

Coach Liton Shah says that it’s “a fantastic opportunity” for his team, and has invited supporters to come along on the night and cheer his team on –  kick-off is at 7.30pm.

“It’s taken three years to build this team, and we think they’re finally good enough to challenge the big boys,” he said.

“If we can get through the early rounds, we could well come up against youth teams representing Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, and what an experience that would be!

“We’ve always been a club that wants to grow and develop, and competing in the FA Youth Cup is the next step on our journey.”
