TWO of north London’s finest fought off competition from some of the best in the world to make the last eight in the European Cadet Sabre Tournament in Goppingen in Germany.

Jonathon Webb led the way for the British team with a seventh-place finish which confirms the 16-year-old’s ranking as seventh in Europe and first in Britain.

And his Camden Fencing Club-mate Rubin Amsalem, 16, is now 33rd in Europe and second in Britain after finishing eighth at the tournament, which is one of the strongest on the circuit.

Two other CFC sabreurs in action for Britain in Germany were William Moore, who finished 85th, and Nathan Potter who came 113th.

Last week CFC sabreur Soji Aiyenuro recorded Britain’s best Junior result of the season when he finished 23rd in the Under-20 World Cup in Dormagen in Germany.

The 18-year-old City and Islington College student is now ranked 31st on the world circuit and first in Britain.
