Essential Living should act to improve the conditions in Swiss Cottage

• SURPRISING to see Essential Living Ltd has published data claiming central London is the greenest UK city, based on awarding points for elements such as air quality, pollution, quality of life, life expectancy, and green spaces, (https://www.essentialliving.co.uk/blog/the-greenest-cities-mapped/).

No, actually we were utterly amazed, given what they have done in Swiss Cottage at the 100 Avenue Road site, now a hole in the ground for the rest of this year and probably all of next as their money tree withers!

Essential Living has destroyed a building which provided local residents and the only green space in the area with some shielding from the noise and pollution coming from the Swiss Cottage gyratory system, which is now back in full, high-speed, use with no attempts being made to even make sure the traffic obeys the speed limit!

Essential Living have repeatedly refused to do anything to ameliorate this problem, they won’t add a few feet on top of the barriers around the site which would give some shielding.

They are not even reinstating the road section in front of the area, even though their “pit lane” will not be needed for months. If they ever return, that is.

The vital bus stops could be reinstated immediately, saving the trek which we all have to make to the nearest stops across the local roads, a difficult journey, especially for older and disabled people and families with children in push-chairs.

It would take a couple of hours to remove the plastic bollards creating this pit lane, but even Camden Council do not care about this. Nor do Transport for London.

Both sit there as dumb as a pair of oxen! They are supposed to be public bodies, representing us, but are doing nothing about this simple issue.

Perhaps some of our Labour councillors would like to make Camden do something. It won’t be long before they will be asking us to vote for them.
