Eric was enormously generous with his time

• IT was with some shock that I read about Eric’s passing, from my latest CNJ, (Eric Gordon: Tributes to Camden’s great chronicler as founder and editor of CNJ dies at 89, April 8).
I can’t imagine how the staff feel, but it was fascinating reading the memories of his time and his achievements.
I only met him once, over a working lunch, when he kindly gave me invaluable background for my newspaper-based satirical novel.
He didn’t know me from Adam but was enormously generous with his time then and when I had follow up questions on the phone.
I have followed the CNJ for years and always believed it was one of the best local papers I have ever seen; investigative, campaigning and always supportive of local arts and businesses.
I have no doubt that this is down to all of you, but Eric must be irreplaceable. I wish you all the best in carrying on the flame that he lit.
