Eric was a great leader in a world often so sad and without hope

• I HEARD of the passing of Eric Gordon with tears and sadness, (Eric Gordon: Tributes to Camden’s great chronicler as founder and editor of CNJ dies at 89, April 8).
Eric I knew for so many years. And I heard him so often over the years I have been in the Labour Party and then elected to Camden Council, always a person I listened to with care and understanding; an editor who never sought that his newspaper would ever tell the wrong or devious story about the future of Camden and the community; that fought for change.
He could see the need for good change to create a world where the lead would be a cleaner, an honest, a caring society; and where a much better society would seek to create a better life in far better homes; a far better and acceptable way of working to create a safer and honest life for many in the claws of poverty. He was a great leader in a world often so sad and without hope.
He would very often point a finger metaphorically at local politicians to emphasise their sometimes loss of the change we and he sought; he would many times shake us with words to ensure we worked well for all that was wanted. He was a caring, sharing person I always respected deeply.
Rest in peace, comrade, we will want to live our lives with your hope and determination always in our hearts and minds. You are missed and will be for ever.
