Enforce the 20 limit in the Regent’s Park

Thursday, 16th May 2024

• I WAS shocked to read in your story about the death of Hilda Griffiths that cyclists are not bound by the speed limit.

I am a regular walker (with my dog) and runner in and around Regent’s Park, and it’s common to see packs of cyclists travelling at high speed around the Outer Circle.

With another serious accident this month, involving a speeding cyclist and a pedestrian, surely the time has come to impose and enforce a 20mph limit on cyclists on the Outer Circle.

The evidence is already there that if you are hit by a bike at high speed serious injury and death can be the result.

Just like for cars and motorbikes, there are specialist tracks for cyclists to practise high-speed riding.

It shouldn’t be being done in an area like Regent’s Park where there are pedestrians, dogs, and small children in the same space.

The Royal Parks should enforce a blanket 20mph limit for all vehicles.
