SCORES of budding young footballers from across Camden and Islington gathered at Regent’s Park on Saturday for a sizzling afternoon of sun and silverware.
The six-hour showpiece of silky skills, match-winning tackles and glorious goals was the perfect way to bring the curtain down on another thrilling season in the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League.
Hampstead were among the sides celebrating as they won four games out of four to capture the Under-9s League Cup, scoring eight goals and conceding just once along the way.
They beat Pro Touch Soccer Academy 2-0 in the final thanks to goals from player-of-the-tournament Lenny Knight and Kleo Mulla, both of which were set-up by Daniel Devereux.
Perhaps the loudest cheers of the day came in the Under-9s Challenge Cup final where Drayton Youth netted a narrow 1-0 victory over Just Play FC.
The only goal of the game saw Charlie Greenman coolly chip the goalkeeper after showing a touch of class to control Rohat Akbal’s cross.
London Tigers were also celebrating after beating Roundwood Rangers in the final of the Under-11s League Cup. Hotshot Jason Bernard scored the only goal of the game when he stooped to head home Leonardo Tome’s cross.
