A TEMPORARY coroner’s court will be set up next to council offices in Mornington Crescent to help tackle a backlog caused by Covid-19.

Camden Council has set aside up to £500,000 for the works at the Crowndale Centre in Eversholt Street.

The majority of the building is used as the council’s register office, and hosts council meetings while its usual base in Judd Street is being redeveloped.

The council said a number of jury inquests had been delayed by inner north London’s senior coroner, Mary Hassell, because of the limited size of both existing courts at St Pancras and Poplar.

The council said: “It is accepted that neither court has the required space to ensure full compliance with the relevant social distancing guidelines.”

Work is set to be completed by February next year.
