BUDDING young footballers from across Camden and Islington are being invited to trade their teamwork for “a once in a lifetime opportunity” to showcase their skills in Egypt.

Coaches from 2TR Football are kicking off a series of free trials at Haverstock School in Chalk Farm on Wednesday as they search for eight players to form an Under-16s squad to compete in the 2015 SATUC Cup.

Even better news for the selected players is that the trip to Cairo will be fully-funded and all-expenses-paid.

2TR, which stands for 2-Touch Rulz, has gone from strength-to-strength since being launched in 2007.

The four-a-side competition is designed to change the way young people think about football and how they train, improving players’ awareness and how they shield the ball – as well as improving their ball control and skill.

Founder Charlie Browne, who launched 2TR Football while working as a sports development officer in Highgate, couldn’t hide his delight as the project prepares for its biggest away day yet. “This is such a fantastic opportunity. To be given the chance to take a team on such a life-changing trip is unbelievable,” he said.

“The only restriction is that they have to be 15 or under on the day of the final, which is September 3.

“But the trip to Egypt isn’t the only opportunity up for grabs,” Charlie added. “Community worker Clasford Stirling, who has helped produce over 200 professional footballers, will be at all of the trials, casting his eye over the potential future stars of the game.”

The latest, and arguably the most exciting, chapter of the ever-growing 2TR story came about after Charlie met up with Sheikha Al-Thani, founder of SATUC (Sheikha Al-Thani for Underprivileged Children).

She became an instant fan of the work that 2TR is doing with young people from across the capital and couldn’t resist inviting them to take part in the cup.

“Their methods of football are amazing. They encourage kids to make new friends, and there’s a lot of team work involved,” she said. “The fact that it’s only two touches does not give the chance for one person to shine, but for everybody to play and show their teamwork.”
