Steve Brown with the donations so far at Mecca in Camden Town – there’s still time to add some more

A CAMPAIGN to donate Easter eggs to sick children in hospital has smashed its target after just a week and a half.

Steve Brown and Fiona Milne at the Mecca bingo hall in Arlington Road, Camden Town, are leading the charge to donate as many chocolate eggs and Easter treats as possible to children at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Mr Brown said: “We didn’t expect it to do this well, but I’m happy and I’m sure the little kids will be as well – I can’t wait to see their faces when we deliver them.

“Me and Fiona, who’s a team member here and an NHS worker at the Royal Free, are going to deliver them personally. Our goal originally was 200 eggs, and it’s doubled – so now I’m trying to set myself a goal of 700, 800, then hopefully 1,000.”

He added: “If people can, just bring them down! It’s obviously going to a good cause. Great Ormond Street is a massive hospital and we’re here to help.”  Mr Brown began working part-time at the bingo hall before working his way up through the ranks to management. Mecca Bingo has in the past distributed food aid to churches and the homeless.

Eggs for GOSH can be dropped off at the Mecca bingo hall until Wednesday (March 29).
