A DRIVER has attempted to “abduct” a child in Kentish Town last Friday, it has been alleged to the police.
Officers were called at about 6pm last Friday following a third-party report of an attempted abduction of a child in Grafton Road.
The Met said it was alleged that the driver of a car had stopped beside the child and spoken with them, leaving when the child’s parent came over.
Chris Fagg, chair of the Gospel Oak safer neighbourhood panel, told the New Journal: “Gospel Oak police and Camden Community Safety are fully informed and parents should feel confident that the issue is being taken very seriously by the authorities. In addition local police tell me they will be conducting high-visibility patrols in the area.”
Nurseries in the area have introduced extra safety measures as a precaution and have emailed parents about the incident.
The driver of the vehicle has since made themselves known to the police and provided an account. Enquiries continue.
