Patriotic boozing

• IT’S a confusing world we live in.

On the one hand our common sense tells us to be careful we don’t overspend and land ourselves in unsustainable debt.

But a more powerful (and better financed) message comes to us through ads and news media that we are not spending enough for the good of the retail sector and the economic health of the country as a whole.

This week alcohol became a case in point when we’re told that if we don’t spend more on booze, businesses will close down and jobs will be lost.

Next we’ll have people seeking sponsorship for heroic benders to raise awareness of the dangers of sensible drinking. And honours will be awarded to patriotic heavy boozers.
