• CAMDEN Momentum members wish to express serious concerns about potential misconduct by those appointed by the Labour Party to oversee the selection process for Labour councillor candidates for Fortune Green.

Not only was the selection process carried out in a deeply flawed manner, our members were horrified to find that child Holocaust survivor and potential Labour candidate Dr Agnes Kory was repeatedly badgered with questions about her position on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of anti-Semitism (which she noted was traumatising to her as a Holocaust survivor).

It has not escaped our members’ attention that the mistreatment of Agnes comes after the serial mistreatment of many of our Jewish and anti-racist members by those who wish to eliminate Labour’s commitment to socialism, by misusing the IHRA definition.

Our members are aware that there may also be a wish on the part of some to exclude any voices that decry anti-Palestinian racism.

Agnes is a long-standing and well-regarded Labour Party member and committed anti-racist grassroots activist. Her contributions to the local area and our political deliberations mean she is held in high esteem by members.

This mistreatment of Agnes appears to have its roots in broader attempts to exclude any candidates who have taken a socialist and anti-racist political position within Labour.

Camden Momentum has always opposed the misuse and weaponisation of the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism. We continue to oppose the unsavoury attempts to exclude left members of the Labour Party from elected positions.

We urge the Labour Party to investigate the matter thoroughly, apologise for misconduct towards Agnes, and to provide remedies for any unfair treatment.

We also expect the Labour leadership to explicitly condemn any such misconduct and exclude those who perpetrate it. To traumatise or retraumatise Holocaust survivors is abhorrent and such conduct has no place within the labour movement.
