Dean Morgan and James Mason

Published: 4 July, 2014

DYNAMIC duo Dean Morgan and James Mason chalked up a major upset on Monday when they beat the best doubles pairing in the business to pocket silverware in the Chalk Farm Pool League.

The Peckwater TA potters trounced table-toppers Sonny Saunders and Danny James at the Boston Arms in Tufnell Park to be crowned the doubles champions in front of a 70-strong crowd.

Sir Robert Peel pairing Saunders and James went into the tie as favourites having won the competition four times in the last five years. But far from being fazed, Morgan and Mason rose to the occasion and proved they can handle the pressure at the top table as they won the five-frame contest 3-1.

Inspired by his win, Mason also went on to win the Captains Cup as he toppled The Boot’s Pete Morris 3-0 to round off a memorable night.

Seasoned campaigner Roy Cooper made sure host club Boston Arms had something to celebrate as he beat Sir Robert Peel 'B' team regular George Larner 3-0 to win the Seniors Cup.

But Sir Robert Peel had the last laugh as Chris Heim won the singles trophy and Tom Boylan lifted the Governor’s Cup to give supporters of the Queen’s Crescent pub plenty to cheer about.
