ARSENAL Ladies manager Pedro Martinez Losa says that he could not pass up the “incredible opportunity” to sign Germany international Josephine Henning.

The three-time Women’s Champions League winner became the Gunners’ fourth signing of the close-season on Thursday after completing the switch from French side Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-year-old defender was one of the standout players for her country when Germany won the Women’s Euro 2013. Losa revealed he had no plans to sign a defensive player, until Henning suddenly arrived on the market.

“It was not in our plans to improve the defence but when you have the opportunity to get a player like Josi, you go for it,” he told Arsenal.com

“In football, things change day by day. Sometimes you have injuries, circumstances change and it is a position we could have trouble with during the season. We had an incredible opportunity with Josephine. She wanted to join the club. She wants to show us her value and we made this possible.”

With the new season in the Women’s Super League looming, Losa was also boosted by the news that Jordan Nobbs has signed a new contract.

The 23-year-old has established herself as one of the most gifted midfielders in the women’s game since joining the Gunners from Sunderland in 2010, and has scored 21 goals in 53 league appearances for the club.

She has helped Arsenal win two league titles, three FA Women’s Cups and four Continental Cups during her time in north London.

“Jordan is a very important player for us and one of our key players offensively,” Losa said.

“We can receive big rewards in the future and especially with players like Jordan, who can show us those values.

“For the future, she will be one of those players that others go to so they can learn the Arsenal way and how we operate at this club.”
